About inthewindow
inthewindow is a hub for independent artists, DJs, venues and
the event industry in the North of England, rooted in Leeds. We spotlight
people passionate about the DIY and community-focussed music scene in the
city — helping you keep up to date with everything going on and discover
the amazing local artists in our vibrant city of music.
How inthewindow began
"inthewindow launched back in January 2023 during my time working at
independent record shop — The Vinyl Whistle in Headingley. I met so many
passionate and interesting music collectors, DJs, and artists while
working there. It felt necessary to spread the word about the amazing
people in the area who share a love for music, events, and supporting
the local scene. Utilising the access I had to the shop, inthewindow
began with a series of weekly recordings on a Sunday daytime during my
shift."

Leeds has long been one of the UK's most important cities for independent
electronic music. From legendary parties like Cosmic Slop to the emerging
DIY collectives taking over basement rooms and community spaces, the
city's scene is built on mutual support, marginalised-led programming and
an unmatched love for records. inthewindow exists to document and amplify
that scene — the DJs you hear on a Sunday afternoon at The Vinyl Whistle,
the promoters running late-night parties across Hyde Park and the city
centre, and the venues giving new artists their first platform.
